May – when it rains it pours…

And I don’t mean the weather, which has actually been quite decent recently. No, this time it’s COVID.

Everything was going so well. School was back up and running after the Easter break, the sun was shining, restrictions had been relaxed slightly and I’d had my second jab. Then our feet were swept from underneath us.

First we were notified that my daughter’s school bubble had burst, so we had to go and pick her up. That prompted my husband and I to do a lateral flow test at home, which came back positive. We booked ourselves in at lunchtime the same day for a full test… and then we waited.

You can probably guess where this is going.

I’d started with a tickly cough and by the end of Thursday it had become a real bark. Lunchtime Friday we got the news. Positive. Crap! Thus began frantic phone calls, messages, and getting completely overwhelmed by a gazillion text messages and emails from the NHS (not an exaggeration!).

My daughter was finally eligible to get a full test, which we booked yesterday, and today we had the news that was in no way a surprise. Yep, positive too.

On the plus side the fam appears to be doing well with it, I’m the only one with any major symptoms. The cough seems to have eased, though returns on an evening when I’m a bit tired, but breathing can be challenging at times. It comes and goes but it’s a strange feeling when you breathe normally but don’t feel like you are getting the full benefit. That’s what leaves you breathless, not moving around or over exerting yourself.

Have you or your family suffered with COVID? How did you cope with the symptoms?

So, “how did Camp NaNoWriMo pan out?” I hear you ask. Well, not to plan would be the simple answer. I managed 4,243 words through the month, which may not sound a lot, but I managed to work through a huge plot point that I’d been stuck on for months. I finally feel like I can make some real progress, though that might be difficult for the coming 10 days while trying to recover and home school.

All of the lives that I took part in on the World Indie Warriors Instagram Page went really well, and you can catch up with them here!

One activity that I did manage really well was reading. It’s been a long time coming but, at every spare moment I found my head stuck in the pages of a book. I finished four in total, you may recognise them.

Ever late to the party, I became fully immersed in everything ACOTAR and know exactly which court my heart belongs. It may have a High Lord who’s dark, sexy, sarcastic, has bat wings and eyes that hold a thousand stars. I don’t normally like to follow the masses, but on this point I’d fight my way to the front of the line!

Anyway, it’s getting late and I need some rest. It’s been lovely talking to you but, as you can probably understand, I won’t be making many plans for the month ahead. I think my goal is just to get through it.

Feel free to follow me on Instagram, I’m always happy to answer any questions or just have a chat.

Take care, Jodie xxx
