After a bit of delay because of the website move, we are back with an author Q&A. We are restarting with the lovely K. Meador who, I’m sure you agree, lives in a wonderful sounding place with a very interesting career history. Take a look at her bio below!

Ironically, I never saw myself settling in Oklahoma since my roots are in Texas, but here I am living on twenty beautiful acres named Timberland Forest.
I love to spin stories for children and adults in the genres of clean romance, stories based on true life events, Christian inspirational/devotionals, and, of course, children.
In addition to writing, I have spent over twenty years in the aviation industry, first as an aircraft mechanic and then as an inspector fulfilling leadership roles within that timeframe. I currently write for the ERA Air Aviation magazine based in India and work for Pratt and Whitney as an engine inspector.
I am extremely proud of my two sons who are actively pursuing their own careers. Five cats and one exceptionally large dog adopted me and keep me company daily. Their antics keep me laughing and will quite possibly end up in a book or two.
I’d love to hear from you so send me an email at authorkmeador@gmail.com
Getting to Know You

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Writing has always been a passion for me from a young age. When I decided to pursue writing as a profession, I chose the Indie path because of the freedom it gives me to write in several genres and to publish on my schedule.
When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
I own 90 acres of land that I farm. Currently I’m also building my own tiny home. If that doesn’t keep me busy enough, I also volunteer my time within the prison system, teaching classes to encourage those who are incarcerated to pursue positive life choices.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hearing back from a reader telling me how the story affected them. To evoke strong emotions – whether it is like or dislike –, to me, defines an author’s effectiveness.
The Writing Process

What is your writing process?
My writing process varies depending on what genre I am writing in. For children’s stories, I usually write them all at once and then go back to edit. For my full-length novels, I write a brief outline of where I want the story to go but usually as I am writing, it changes. For my inspirational stories, I spend time in reflective thought about the issues people face today and my perspective on how to handle solutions.
How do you get inspired to write?
Inspiration is everywhere. I listen to kids talk for my children’s books. I listen to the social problems they are present with and then adapt them to a scenario to which they can relate. It is the same for my inspirational books – I listen to the adults I am around and try to answer the hard questions in an empathetic and understand manner.
What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Just write. Many people will tell you to follow this or that rule. Sometimes it is easy to get bogged down. But the truth is, a page full of words can be edited and developed, but a blank page cannot.
Reading

What are your five favorite books, and why?
I don’t think I can answer this one. I read in many genres and love many authors in the same genre. I think the love of reading is more important to me than having favorites. However, I will say my personal library is over 500 books.
How do you discover the books you read?
Sometimes it is word of mouth, other times by browsing, but most often by an enticing cover and a professionally written back of the book blurb.
What books are on your reading list this year?
Too many to list which has been the story of my life! Refer to the comment, my personal library is over 500 books and growing.
Princess Alexia and the Dragon

Follow Princess Alexia as she and her brave dog, Zoey, embark on a mission to confront a fire-breathing dragon. She hopes to do what her father’s soldiers could not, capture the dragon so another Ample Apple Orchard celebration would not be attacked and the land set ablaze.
K. Meador
When Princess Alexia faces her adversary, she is frightened, but her fears abate once she and Titus, the dragon, begin talking. Can she convince Titus to stop plaguing her father’s kingdom, and will the festival be celebrated without fear of destruction?
What inspired you to write Princess Alexia and the Dragon?
I wrote this book for my ex-boyfriend’s granddaughter. It was my first book in the children’s genre. It was a fun book to write, and she loved it.
Is there going to be a follow up to Princess Alexia and the Dragon?
Because of her strong, bold, daring, and adventurous spirit, Princess Alexia is growing up in a middle grade series that I am currently working on.
